The LGB Alliance Business Forum is on the look-out for members to join its advisory panel

Formed at the start of 2025, the Business Forum is a group of senior executives from a range of sectors who are concerned that the voices and rights of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals are being diminished in the workplace.

In an era where difficult conversations are deemed ‘unsafe’ and the mantra of ‘no debate’ has meant many LGB staff feel unable to express their views, we’re opening up the floor to honest, good-faith discussions about creating workplaces and cultures that are better for all.

The Business Forum has big plans: more webinars, commissioning research, an in-person shindig this summer – and more – to spark the conversation about LGB rights at work.

We also hope to connect with chief executives, HR directors, policy makers and politicians to spark the conversations about LGB rights and the threats posed by activism and lobby-groups misrepresenting the law.

And to do this, we’d like your help.

What we’re looking for

As the work of the Business Forum grows, we’d welcome LGB applicants with experience at operating in senior positions to join our small advisory team. We’re open-minded about the sector you’re from; the important thing is a good working knowledge of how businesses operate and demonstrating how you’d drive the Business Forum’s vision forward.

This may be your first advisory role outside of your day job, but you will have a proven track record as a strategic leader. Your understanding of how to ‘get things done’ in a firm and navigating the politics of the workplace is what we’re looking for.

We’re particularly interested in talking to lawyers, chief counsel, counsel and those with a good working knowledge of the law.
You can read more about the Business Forum and its parent charity, the LGB Alliance.

Essential criteria:

• Demonstrable experience of operating at a senior level in an organisation
• The gravitas to influence stakeholders and shape business strategy
• Demonstrate a genuine commitment to the mission of LGB Alliance and the Business Forum
• Understanding of the challenges facing lesbians, gay men and bisexuals in the workplace, and how the conflation of LGB rights with issues related to trans and queer communities disadvantages us
• Appreciation of the political landscape and confidence to engage with politicians and the media
• Advocate of free speech and appreciative of its place in modern society
• Counsel / senior legal practitioners with a knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 or employment law would be particularly welcomed

The Business Forum meets in person monthly, and virtually in the fortnights in between for an hour in the evening. However, this increases when we’re planning a webinar, event or creating marketing materials, for example.
The successful candidate(s) will also agree to appear on the LGB Alliance Business Forum website with a pen portrait.

Interested?

If you’re interested and have the skills and experience that fit the bill, please send an up-to-date copy of your CV to info@lgbbusinessforum.org and also your Linkedin profile URL if you have one.

While this post is unremunerated, it’s a great opportunity to be part of something new and make a difference to the lives of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals at work.
